Narrative Structure
The beginning of the movie we see a woman, a man is speaking over the scene who is stood behind her, He talks about what he sees in the woman, so at the beginning of the scene we don't know what to expect from this character, during the sequence he has a conversation with the woman, as they draw closer, the man speaks over the scene again, telling the audience what he is doing, suddenly we her a sound and a light flashes then the man talks about the gun he is holding makes a whisper, we suddenly find out that this character is actually a hitman, after this sequence the opening sequence begins showing the city with music in the background.
Thriller Codes and Conventions
Sin City follows the thriller codes and conventions as in the beginning sequence, the woman is alone on the rooftop and a man is stood behind her, as she is alone this shows that no-one would hear if anything happened so this shows isolation, this is also shown as in the movie she talks about the party in the background so no-one would hear if something happened outside. Also the film follows the codes and convention as it uses specific colours to signify things, the movie uses red to signify danger and the woman is dressed in this colour, later on in the sequence this is shown that red signifys danger as she is killed at the beginning by the hitman
Camerawork
The camerawork focuses on specific aspects in the movie for example it will focus on a particular character and the rest of the aspects in the shot will be blurred out or in less focus
Mise-En-Scene
The movie as a whole is set around the crime and corruption that goes on throughout the city, in the movie we are shown all the aspects of crime and from all different viewpoints for example one of the stories in the movie is based from a cops point of view and during the movie he protects a girl from a man who is trying to harm her.
Sound
The music used in the movie is fluent throughout the opening sequence, it is slow paced at the beginning of the scene when we see a man talking to a woman on top of a rooftop, the music used creates a mood for the characters as they draw closer to each other, so the music creates romance. A fter the man had killid the woman, when we find out he is actually a hitman the music changes to a different style of tune and portrays crime within the city.
Editing
The angles in the movie cuts between stories but after a main sequence in some one elses story, it will fade out and move on to the next one which would soon link up with the other story previously shown
Graphics
The graphics in the movie are different to most thrillers as it only uses colour for specific things for example in the opening sequence we can only see the colour red on the woman, this can be used in two ways, the first way would be used to focus only on that particular character but also as you only see the colour red, this can signify danger but also signal that something will happen to the woman as she is in the colour red
